Seminar June 2019 - Looking Back
The 2019 High Level Seminar focused on the current development perspectives of the European Union in the context of Brexit and the elections for the European Parliament as well as in connection with risks in foreign and economic policy. Furthermore, we dealt with digital disruption in the insurance industry and in the world of public media.
The 2019 High Level Seminar for executives offered by Zacon France encompassed the following topics:

“The European Union: Agent or object of global political design?”
Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting
Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting is the Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service. Prior to this position, he was Head of the Delegation of the European Union at the United Nations in New York. Before he worked for the EU, he had been Austria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and thus Austria’s representative on the Security Council from 2009 to 2010.

“Why Italy is in a position to blow up the Eurozone - an economic diagnosis”
Franz Schellhorn
Since February 2013, Franz Schellhorn has headed the Vienna-based Agenda Austria think tank, which deals with relevant economic issues. Before that, he was in charge of the business resort of the Presse newspaper from 2004 to 2013, where he was also a member of the chief editorial board.

“Digital disruption in the insurance sector and the Russian experiment”
Peter Hagen
Peter Hagen is one of the co-founders of Coya AG; prior to that, he was the CEO of Vienna Insurance Group AG from 2012 to 2015. He was a member of VIG Group’s management board from July 1, 2004, after he had joined the predecessor company Wiener Städtische in 1989 as a law graduate.
“The future of ORF - public broadcasters at the crossroads”
Roland Weißmann
Roland Weißmann has been ORF’s Deputy Commercial Director since 2017 and a member of ORF Online und Teletext GmbH since 2019. Before that, he held various executive (journalist) positions within ORF.

“The European Union in a changing world: External views and competition prognoses”
Prof. Ulrich Schlie
Ulrich Schlie, retired Ministerial Head of Department, is Professor of Practice and the Chair of Diplomacy at Andrássy University in Budapest. From 2005 to 2014, he was Head of the Planning Staff and Political Director in the German Defense Department in Berlin.
